Freij-Tonder is doing her part to help with recycling
efforts by using bottles, jars, windows, and cut-offs
from stained glass windows to produce a unique line
of recycled glass jewelry. Her interest in recycling
dates back to the early seventies and the first Earth
Day. In a stained glass class in 1983, she realized
the possibilities of combining passions to create
recycled glass jewelry. Soon after,
she produced her first recycled glass earrings.
Freij-Tonder cuts pieces of glass and either fires
them in a kiln or tumbles them in a rock polisher.
The kiln-fired glass retains the shiny surface and the pieces of tumbled glass are etched to a beach-glass texture. The individual pieces are then fitted with hypo-allergenic surgical steel ear wires. The results are guaranteed to delight!

For dress-up or play, iridescent offers you a special rainbow of color. A thin metalic layer is fused to a solid color base glass. When light reflects off the iridesent coating a multi-color "water on oil" effect is visible. In low light the base color comes through.
